Folks I need help in finding a small/medium sized campsite for my daughter, son-in-law and their dog who are travelling to France at the start of September. It needs to have dog-friendly rental accommodation (mobile home, safari tent, or similar), be a max 5hr drive from Calais (any area considered), and preferably within walking distance of a village with basic amenities. A pool/river/lake would be a bonus but not necessary as would bicycle hire (and cycle paths). Hopefully all you dog lovers out there can help. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I would recommend Sable sur Sarthe, alongside the river short walk to the town along the river and a large sports field /hippodrome along side.
It has a small pool but may be shut in September very helpful staff very clean and tidy site and facilities.

Huttopia allow one dog per unit, and have a ‘back to nature’ ethos, often by rivers etc, and usually have a pool. We’ve stayed at Les Chateaux and Beaulieu so far, the latter being about 8hrs of comfortable driving, the former about 4-5. Both to be recommended.
Hope they have a great time.

Hi,
Would also recommend Huttopia Les Chateaux situated in the village of Bracieux with shops & restaurants. It’s in between Chambord & Cheverney, good bike rides to both,

Fiona

If you're look for rental on the campsite rather than taking their own set up why not have a look for a dog-friendly cottage? There will be more choice and the price might not be too bad either.

Lac d'Orient has always been popular on here - should be far enough south get decent weather in September.

Personally would recommend extending the 5 hours limit from Calais in Sept unless it's a one week holiday - you really need to get down south of the Loire - eg Dordogne.

Avoid 'Yellow' owned sites.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I have one final question about travelling with their dog but I’ll post that separately.
