Has anyone used the Little Yellow Train from Villefranche de Conflent/Vernet le Bains to Latour de Carol?
We are traveling close to the area next week and, as it's not high season, thought we may be able to get on the train as every other year we have been there it's been the busiest time and it's not possible to travel on it.
I was just wondering whether the journey and return is doable in a day or would it be better to do a shorter return journey.

The whole journey from Perpignan takes 3 hours from start to finish, so from Villefrance le Conflent it's doable in a day if you catch morning trains. There is maintenance scheduled along the track and the top section from Vernet les Bains to Font Romeu has recently been closed, so check re-opening. Take a picnic, as from memory, it's quite difficult to find somewhere to eat when you get to the top.

We did this a few years ago As Val says doable if yogurt an early train BUT as it isn't yet high season I would advise (you probably will anyway) carefully checking the timetable. We went from Villefranche le Confluent to avoid Perpignan parking ( café near the station will probably be open. Unfortunately out train stopped at Font Romeu with a problem so we couldn't complete the whole journey and get back because it was low season timetable.

Thanks for the replies. I will be driving to Villefrance le Confluent as I've had experience of parking in Perpignan previously. It's also more convenient from where I'm staying.
There are early morning trains at the moment from what research I have done and I can get tickets through the Trainline!
Thanks for the heads up about taking a picnic.
