I've been asked, by our lovely member Stuart Thomas, to post the following message on his behalf:
"All good things come to an end. My caravan is now in the hands of another and our touring days are over .
I would like to thank all those who have helped me over the years and all those that have given me such joy to tease.
Whilst my mobility has been impaired, you will be pleased to know that my devilish good looks, my cognitive abilities and my world renown humility remain unscathed. So I will still be reading the forum, if only to correct your grammar.
My next task is how to get over to France in time for the ”Foire aux vignes”
Like many others I've had a few humorous exchanges with Stuart, starting many years ago in the days when we used to compete for the scraps of 'Camping Cheques' which others had left over. More recently in person when we met up with Stuart and Beryl in the Corbieres when they were holidaying nearby. He really is a lovely man with a lot of wisdom, a really good way with words, and a wicked sense of humour. His contributions will be sadly missed on a this and a number of other Camping and Caravanning forums.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
I'll certainly miss him. Both for his humour and his suggestions for campsites which were always excellent.
Also I hope he finds a golden oriole or two.
Good luck Stuart with whatever the future may hold for you and your wife.

I always enjoy his posts and I have found that his campsite recommendations suit us down to the ground. I hope that all goes well with him and that he continues to enjoy all that French liquid.

Same here! Always hoped I’d bump into you at some point, so kept an eye out for a Silver van in strange places. I hope you’ll keep us updated with further insights into future travels, as many of us will be coming to the end of our caravanning careers.
Thanks too, to ValA for passing on the sentiments.
Please don't stop posting on here, Stuart. Surely, if you can still read these threads, you can continue to contribute? Your contributions to this forum have always been poignant, informative, entertaining and irreverent, and I would miss them hugely.

Are we all jumping the gun here in wishing Stuart au revoir, when we should just be saying à bientôt?
I very much hope we've all got the wrong end of the stick and this just means that our dear old SGT is simply moving to static holiday accommodation and it's only the caravan that's gone...
It's proper important you keep posting which we all feel as would miss your comments and can't do without you you sea
Over the past ten years or so, since I joined this forum, I think it's fair to say I've enjoyed reading AT LEAST half a dozen or so of Stuart's posts. Probably more!
I may have even tittered at one stage, too!
And I've gratefully followed in his footsteps to a couple of well regarded camp sites too.
In addition, I've clearly no need to be jealous of the aforementioned "devilish good looks" on a personal level, being similarly endowed myself, but on a much younger body, of course.
Nor do I need to concern myself with his obsession for putting people right regarding spelling/grammar etc, what with me being equally as Aruldite.
So yeah... apart from his sarcasm, which I really can't be doing with... I suppose I'm happy to wish him well, if only to appear polite.
I'll refrain from raising my glass to him though, if I may... as he'd no doubt syphon it off anyway! (Hic!)
Take care, old timer.
May your remaining days be just that... plural!

Thank you all for the kind thoughts and words,it is almost like attending one's own funeral.
We are considering the feasibility of touring via gîtes or the chalets on campsites, once medical considerations are completed.
The one thing we will miss is the absolute freedom of wandering with no plan nor time restraint. If you like a place, stay.( our record was 42 days). If you don't like it, move. ( shortest stay was 4 hours)
My advice on quirky but cheap sites will obviously now get dated,so I trust others will keep up the good work.
Rest assured I will be tuning in every now and then, but in a more mellow and avuncular way
My biggest claim to fame is that I once donated a Camping Cheque to SG Thomas - it would have been an even greater claim to fame if he'd paid for it! (Only kidding, no money was requested).
Your posts have often reduced me to helpless giggling SG - please carry on!
