Travellers to the Schengen area will need an ETIAS document as of next year. Only €7 and will last for 3 years but is another post-Brexit faff!
Yup, and it was supposed to be introduced this year, however, I read it has been delayed due to technical issues.

The Common Travel Area (CTA) is an arrangement between the United Kingdom (UK) and Ireland that gives a variety of rights to citizens of those countries. It includes the basic right to travel freely between both countries.
Anything that restricts the movement of the likes of terrorists, criminals, drug dealers and people smuggler etc, is a good initiative. I just hope the U.K. government adopt a very similar requirement. ETIAS gets a big 👍 from me, if you are none of the above then you have no reason to consider it a faff. It will be quick and very cheap.
No issues for me at all! 🤷

+1. Although it won't affect me personally, as I'm Dutch, and OH won't need it as spouses (and family members) of EU nationals are exempt. I'm not sure I understand that part of it, there is no chance of any of those who are exempt being on the wrong side of the law then
But if I had to apply for it, it wouldn't bother me either; also, when we came back into Folkestone via Le Shuttle, the caravan and car were searched for illegals. Hadn't experienced that for a number of years, but more than happy for it to be done. The MHs in front were seearched too, so it seems security is being tightened up again.

In your dreams mate. The UK is a haven for all of the above. Our lack of ID cards makes it easy for them. ETIAS is just rubbing salt in our wounds.
Well that’s another three bottles of wine for you.

As well is two words!

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
It seems I was wrong in my earlier post about OH not needing it due to me being an EU national. Having read through some of it again, it seems he will need one, but won't have to pay the application fee. He wouldn't have to pay anyway, as he's over 70, but that makes more sense now.
Sorry for supplying duff info, but too late to edit the post

Don't get me started on our lack of ID cards!
I originated from Hong Kong, born there when it was a British colony, and UK government insisted for HK citizens to have ID cards under their rule, and I got one when I was 11, still have one that was updated when I went back to HK in 2009 after a 22-year break to visit family!!!
It infuriates me to this day that UK does not have ID cards of its own!!!

I’ve signed up at etias.com for newsletters, for information about start date etc, as nephew is marrying a Spanish lass next year.
I have done the same, as a camping trip has already been planned for France and the Netherlands in May 2024!

Etias.com is not an official website so just be a little careful.
Also be aware that you must be able to prove ( if asked ) when entering the EU that you have up to , depending on country, £85 per person per day for the duration of your stay ( so a family of 4 thats £340 per day or £4760 for a two week holiday ) in your bank account .
