We're currently near Santander and temperatures are now pleasant - mid 20s rather than low 30s. Stopped for a beach near Biarritz, Bourg near Bordeaux (rugby WC), Angers which we like and have visited before. We've taken to using Newhaven -Dieppe to avoid M25 and Dover. Travelling 1/2 day and staying 2-3 days each spot works for us. We look for municipal sites - generally good, some exceptional locations (Langres).

Hi,
From my own experience I would definately replace:
Saintes for Bordeaux,
Angers with Nantes,
Add La Rochelle
If you are going in June go to the festivals in Carcassone.
Mont St Michelle can be visited in an afternoon.
St Malo, is a lovely finishing point as you can visit Cancal and Dinnan as well.
Good luck.
