We arrive at St Malo on the ferry 27th August, 2024. Plan is to head for Bordeaux but we'll have had 3 x 3hour drives to get to Portsmouth so I wonder why not spend a few days in the St Malo area to give the dogs a rest from long driving days.
Can anyone recommend a nice quiet site for a caravan, 1 wife, 2 dogs and a tired driver to rest up for a few days before onward travel to south west France.
Restaurant / cafe in walking distance of site and modest facilities as we are pretty self sufficient - just need a loo first thing if you know what I mean
Many thanks in advance.

Your ferry will arrive at 0815 so you need a site with an agreeable owner who will let you in soon after that. If you can manage to drive 20 miles to the west I am sure that Julien at camping aux Vallon des Merlettes at Matignon will do that for you. Site scores 10 out of 10 on reviews on here.- and not expensive if you have an ACSI camping card.
Most of the ones I know are north of St Malo. We did spend a few days in the site in St Malo - la cite d'alet.
It was nice but busy. I wouldn't say it was noisy but it was a bit boho.
How about Camping le Vieux Chatel at Combourg? (See my review on here), a quiet municipal site 25 miles or so south of St.Malo. Meets all your requirements, an easy 10/15 minute walk to the pleasant little town with cafes, restaurants etc, supermarkets within a short drive
and especially good for the dogs with walks
through the woods and by lakes directly from the
site.
Good English spoken at Reception too, if that is
helpful, and no problem with morning arrival, though you can always send them an email to check. Advance booking available too (no fees).
I think the tariff is on the website, but as I recall, for 2 adults, car and caravan, electricity, 2 dogs and tourist tax it was round €23 a night - same price all season.

Thanks for the advice/suggestions. I've passed this on to SWMBO who is contacting sites so I'll no doubt receive an edict in due course as to which one we will be using
On our recent trip we used Camping Municipal Pointe du Grouin in Cançale and Camping de l’Île Verte in Saint Benoit des Ondes both on the Baie de Le Mont Saint Michel.
Both have restaurants within a short walk, the latter also has a snack bar and a pool as well as a lovely beach nearby. The former is a municipal which is on the top of the cliffs and has stunning views.
Either of them could be reached within an hour of disembarkation so would need to be contacted ahead to see if they'd take early arrivals.
Thanks to everyone who replied. We sail Plymouth to Roscoff tomorrow evening. (Yipee!!) We're very excited as it's 10 years since we last venture to Europe with the caravan. We staying one night at Camping Pardise Roscoff before driving down to Cmp Du Letty in Benodet for 26 nighte. Cmp Du Letty was our family's favourite campsite for many years in the 90's and we're meeting up with our 5 adult children and 6 grandchildren who are staying there or in the area.
Then on 31st August up to St Malo area for 10 nights. Thanks for all the suggestions of St Malo area sites We will be checking these out online whilst at Cmp Du Letty. Thanks again.
