Hi everyone, i'm looking for some urgent advice.... my mother is flying to spain at 4am tomorrow morning and is flying to santander from stansted but is flying from biarritz to stansted coming home... it's a long story but her friend who is going with her is hiring a car and driving her from spain to france.. The question is ... Are you allowed to drive a hired car to france from spain.. Are there any sort of restrictions at passport control....  All help is greatly appreciated...

            thanks ......tooty

In my experience there is virtually no passport control between France and Spain. Last few times we have just driven straight through, hardly aware of crossing the border at all. Haven't had to stop  or show passports, docs etc. Just keep going!!

As long as you have all the relevant documents for the car and your driving licence there shouldn`t be any problems. As said, the chances of being asked to show anything at the border is remote. Last time I was stopped was 14 years ago, and that was because I was cycling and the officer on that day was a bike fan, and wanted to look at my touring bike.
