We were originally planning to go to the South if France, I've booked the ferry today (Newhaven to Dieppe) for the beginning of August, two weeks. We will be taking our pop top American style trailer tent, it'll be me, husband, 23 and 15 year old daughters - and now a little dog who is coming to live with us tomorrow!!
So I'm thinking absolutely NOT the south of France as it'll be too hot for a dog. Would absolutely love any recommendations for interesting/cultural/scenic places to visit/camp towards the west coast, staying a few days in each place - bonus points for (A) enough to keep daughters interested (B) not enormously expensive (C) dog friendly. Would like to end up on a beach campsite for a few days before heading back.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
La Falaise near La Turballe as you are right on the beach. Great for dogs and lots of walks around for dogs. Swimming pool and small restaurant
Campsite Au Port-Punay, Les Boucholeurs - 17340 Châtelaillon-Plage, south of La Rochelle as close to beach and a lot of walks for dogs. Swimming pool and decent restaurant.
When we used to take dogs we found inland sites near a river or with river access were better, as many beaches do not allow dogs in the summer months. However, we have been caught out by heat even in the middle of France - it varies so much from year to year, but, IMO, it would certainly be too hot in the south in August.
------------- Freedom is a light caravan and an open road.
We are taking our Golden Retriever this year May / June to France. He absolutely loves the beach and swimming. I have booked a very dog friendly campsite near Agde for a couple of the weeks. Its right on the dog friendly beach too, called La Tamarissiere.
I found a very useful French website with all sorts of info about going on holiday with your dog in France.
