After some advice please. Caravanners many years, now Motorhomers. Been to med. coast last few years, want to do Atlantic this August (no choice in timings unfortunately). We have a couple of “main” sites booked thru France and in Vigo. My question is will we be able to find camping spots in between at this time of year; more than happy to “off grid” 2-3 nights at a time, fully respectfully, if required. Or is it like uk with scumbags spoiling it so there are blanket bans?….
Happy for any advice please.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
A lot of the answer will be ... it depends. What do you mean by "peak season" exactly, there will be less demand at the end of August, for example. Also what type of sites did you have in mind as all singing sites on the coast will be in significantly more demand than municipals 100km inland. How many stops are you thinking of between the ferry and Vigo ?
We went to the Basque region (French and Spanish), Asturias and Cantabria in 2019 from mid June to early August, we booked but changed our minds while there due to weather and had no trouble getting pitches. That said, we did see people turned away at Orio (Spanish Basque coastal site) a few hours after we arrived, that was in early July. Also our last site El Molino Cabuerniga (Cantabria) was fairly empty when we arrived but seemed full by the time we were leaving 2 weeks later.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
