Last October in Dordogne we had an invasion of stinks bugs into the caravan. We kept fly screens shut so there were getting in through all the small openings.
When they appear in the caravan we hoover them up with the Dyson, they are very quick.
Anyway 7 months on and we are still
catching half a dozen each day.
They have plenty of inaccessible hiding places, I have emptied caravan and not seen any, but they are there.
They have been a nuisance, found some in cupboards and one in a bed.
Apparently their lifespan is 6/8 months
Unfortunately we now believe some are leaving a small brown liquid gift on blinds etc.
Don’t know whether a Bug Bomb would work but we both have eye problems
We keep saying there can’t be many left.
Would be a nightmare if they were actually breeding.
There doesn’t appear to be any food for them in the caravan, perhaps they don’t need it
Any advice please
John

I didn't realise what a nuisance these could be.

There's a lot of natural things listed online that get rid of them, I would be trying them all....
Like spraying around with diluted peppermint oil or other strong smelling oil to deter them.
Leaving out a dish of apple cider vinegar, they are attracted to this then fall in and drown.
Attract them to a light with a dish of soapy water underneath to drown them.

I've never heard of them so googled them, realised that these are the same bugs that crawl into the creases and zip protectors on our awning every time we go to France, the part about them laying up to 400 eggs made me cringe.

Must admit I wouldn't want to have the job of getting rid of them out of our caravan

I'm guessing it is the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug - Halyomorpha halys that you are refering to. There is a lot of useful information from DEFRA specifically about the dangers of it as an invasive species. From a professional angle I would be looking at using a powerful vacuumn fitted with a crack and crevice adaptor on the hose end. A residual insecticide such as Deathlac should produce a long term control. Pyrethroid insecticides can be effective as a quick knock down of large numbers.

If it is the Brown Marmorated stink bug, there is the following advice:

The surveillance programme has recorded increasing numbers in and around caravans and motorhomes returning from overseas where the pest is established. Niab is working with the UK’s caravan and camping clubs to alert travellers to be on the lookout for the hitch hiking bugs in their vehicles and to contact bmsb at niab.com if they find any to help track and monitor the spread.

We were in a campsite in France a couple of years ago, and these stinking were swarming the area. We found as many as we could over the week before we came back to the UK. We kept finding them for about 5 months in the UK, they had got into spaces I didn't even know where there! Mostly dead but some alive.

We had an infestation of stink bugs two years running (and yes, they do breed) and have since got rid of them with ant powder puffed into all the corners, cracks and crevices of the caravan Using a special home made puffer with a long nozzle, adapted from something else. We've also put fine mesh over all the 'inlet' holes (and there are plenty of those in caravans) cutting it to shape and glueing it in place. Good luck!
