Looks like the AHC is going and not before time, not got the full details yet, so watch this space
Good to know, however, I am not holding my breath.
I have kept up with my dog's annual rabies booster in case EU does not accept the injection is valid for 3 years.

Our dogs have EU passports (Romanian rescues) and we've kept them valid by having their rabies jabs done in France. The jabs are now valid for 3 years.
The EU has always accepted 3 year rabies vaccination, after the first one. The south of Spain (where rabies is perhaps more easily transmissible from Africa) have a requirement for annual vaccination. We have travelled widely with our cat since pet passports were introduced, and since with an AHC, and have never required annual vaccination.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
The vets will need to put up their extortionate charges to cover the loss of business.

Our vet is great, charging only £90 for a first AHC and £60 for subsequent ones. They are a country vet = treating as many farm animals as pets - and their charges for everything are very modest. We took our cat to the vet on Monday for a small problem, and to test that her chip was working, and despite spending ten minutes with us, checking the chip, and consulting a colleague, there was no charge!
Won't be long until they are taken over, then watch your costs rise.
Roughly 60% of vets in the UK are owned by only six companies, and that percentage is only going to rise.

Not planning to go camping in Europe with the dog until June 2026, hopefully all will be decided by then.

We also use an independent one-man-band vet practice, who charges minimum prices for everything, and long may it last; however, I'm not blind to the fact that at some point that too could be taken over. But until that point, if and when it happens, we're happy to take our cat to him, he's an excellent vet.

The whole practice is against 'Vet monopolies'. Until such a day as they change their mind we'll continue to love them!
Ours too, only opened last year and doing well despite competition from 2 other established vets in the town (were previously independent, now part of a group). They offer a personalised service and go the extra mile - long may it continue!

Mine used to be an independent practice that was originally set up by two vets. When they retired recently resulted in a change of management, it became part of a group.
I felt the practice had become more corporate like and less personal; however, I could be wrong.

I would say you're definitely not wrong there.

Agree. Our vets retired, the practice was bought over by a Russian doll’s set of firms, each making their profit: X owns Y, but is part of Z.
Now the days of seeing the pet after hours in an emergency are gone. When our dog collapsed (internal bleeding), we had to pay several hundred £ to see a commercial “out of hours” vet in another town. Unfortunately, all the other vets in town are now similar, as older vets retire one by one.
Our practice was set up by a youngish vet who moved from one of the other vets in town to do this, so hopefully they will stay independent for a good while yet.
They offer a full out of hours emergency service on site (the other 2 practices had changed to a joint emergency cover scheme with other vets in the area - meaning that we might have had to travel up to 50 miles each way) and charge considerably less for medication - we are saving over a third on our dog's regular epilepsy medicines.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
