We also use an independent one-man-band vet practice, who charges minimum prices for everything, and long may it last; however, I'm not blind to the fact that at some point that too could be taken over. But until that point, if and when it happens, we're happy to take our cat to him, he's an excellent vet.
Ina,any chance of your vet's name,I live locally to you.Was with the old Hillcrest, now changed to Medivet.

We asked the vet when we picked up the AHC and he reckoned if it was up and running by next summer it would be a miracle.
Of course it’s still unknown if it will be the old mothballed version with a few tweaks or a whole new version.

I'm terribly sorry, I didn't see your post at the time.
The vet's name is Chris Mason and he's in Bamber Bridge. Google will bring up the details.
I'm not sure whether he's taking on new patients though. I know he didn't at one point, and each time I make an appointment I'm asked if he's seen our cat before. But it's always worth a try.

We had to get a new EU passport for our Romanian rescue dog as all the tapeworm treatment spaces were full. His chip is registered on the French system and he is registered with the vet we always visit in France before our return to the UK, who has kept his rabies jabs up to date, so
the dog now has a French EU passport. Cost us a whole 14 euros!!!
Picked up AHC yesterday and the vet was telling us that they hope to be issuing PP around May / June time next year.
He also said the industry is trying get them to allow vets to use all relevant information from previous issued AHC or EU issued PP instead of having to go through it all from scratch.
He also mentioned that the new PP might not have as many pages in it, so obviously not last as long.

There is an update on the Brittany Ferries website section entitled Travelling with Pets:
"New rules for pet passports for UK travellers
Further to the recent APHA communications regarding changes to pet passports, authorities have confirmed that EU pet passports issued to British residents before 22 April 2026 remain valid for travel into the EU and can still be used. EU vets are not permitted to issue EU pet passports to non-EU residents after 22 April 2026. British residents who do not have an older, valid EU passport must use a single-use Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued by a GB vet"
Too late for us for this trip, but will save us some money in September!
I fortunately had the dog's rabies booster done at our French vets on Friday, when we took her for the tapeworm treatment before coming home, and entered in her EU passport, so it is still valid for travel.
Incidentally, the consultation, passport completion and rabies booster (we provided our own tapeworm tablets) came to a whopping €43 altogether!
My local vet charged 283 GBP for my dog's AHC this year!
Over 180 GBP back in 2023, and over 220 GBP in 2024.
I shall be looking to use a click and collect service next year, as I doubt if Pet Passport will be returned in time for my next trip in 2027.
I could not use a click and collect service this year, shan't go into details, however, I have a cunning plan going forward!

Ouch, that's nearly 3 times what we paid. But if you couldn't use a click and collect vet, then you didn't have any other option of course.
There are various reports of the return of the pet PP, but it's not looking very promising for an early return

Yup, ouchy indeed.
I shall get him to have a new rabies vaccine when he goes in for his 6-month healthy pet club in October 2026. This way, it will not clash with his other vaccines.

Paid the princely sum of £70 as a repeat customer for our two.
Our ‘various reports’ came directly from the vet, see my other post for details.
