Currently on France for the last 5 weeks. Most of the Brits we've seen are in campervans or motorhomes although there have been a small number of caravans. Not yet seen any other British tenters other than a young couple cycle touring. Also seen a fair number of elderly French caravans but certainly not as many as previous years.

We're in Poland, not seen any British vans either on the road or camping. Although we are parked next to an Elddis Almond caravan at the moment... Polish plates on it though 😁

I sold a 1998 Abbey on eBay a few yrs ago. Buyer was a Polish guy who turned a coin selling old UK caravans in Poland.

We’re just back from a budget cruise to north Norway. The car parks at scenic fishing villages on Lofoten Islands were rammed full of dozens of MHs staying over: Dutch, German, Polish & we saw no British vehicles. It would be a long trip for us, but it’s all bridges & tunnels from mainland Norway, no ferries. A few caravans & only on the roads, between sites maybe.
The local tour guide said that a group of 20 MHs come over from Italy every year. Given the roads are like the Highlands are here, and they travel in convoy, the local people keep in regular contact about their whereabouts by FB, and don’t drive anywhere when the Italians are passing through because no one can overtake the convoy.

Back on topic, driving north through France this morning and did see a handful of uk caravans heading south.
But greatly outnumbered by uk campervans/motorhomes.

Wonder how .uch is to do with financial issues, lots of household bills have gone up this year.

We are towing to France in a few weeks time and whilst it's in the summer holidays we noticed a pretty big increase in ferry costs, even to the point that Eurotunnel looked more attractive than usual, as it was, we decided to go from Portsmouth to St Malo this year for the first time ever although we are traveling back from Cherbourg to Poole.

On the subject of statics, we usually stay at Camping Haliotis for a night or two and the amount of pitches that have now been replaced with statics surprised us last year, whilst I don't blame the campsites I do think that the atmosphere has had a change for the worst due to the lack of caravans etc

I don't anticipate seeing too many motorhomes on the sites we use in summer - there never are very many- and both sites have so many 'regulars'. We have several families who we know and none of them have a motorhome/campingcar- all have caravans, and our Dutch friends also have caravans BUT yes there are more of motorhomes about.

Yes ferry fares have rocketed. Gone are the days only about 6yrs ago when you could get a car/caravan return for well under £200 from Dover if you travelled early hours.

For some odd reason since 2021 it has got more difficult & time consuming to cross the channel & it is bound to get worse. £multi millions have been spent on new infrastructure on both sides of the channel & somebody has got to pay for it I suppose ?

You do wonder where the cut off is for Ferry prices, the vast majority of families I imagine work to a budget for their summer holidays, sooner or later, it will become too prohibitive to tow to France.

Maybe that will drive growth in tent camping again as the costs for a car and roof box or trailer will be a lot lower, or more likely will just tempt people to fly for their holiday

I don't know about abroad, been up to my caravan in the storage yard this afternoon, and the place is jam packed full of MHs! Where have all the caravans gone?

I've been noticing the trend for a year of so of ever increasing numbers of MHs and declining numbers of caravans, but this afternoon was a real shock, reckon 3/4 of the 500 odd spaces were occupied by MHs! Relatively few empty spaces (Popular site, so I'm not sure they have many vacancies, so assuming vacant bay equals people away), so not a case of all the caravans out on hols!

A few years ago, a MH was a bit of a rare sight there, good old London Mayor Khan had an impact when he expanded the LEZ, there seemed to be a noticeable sudden influx of MHs, presumably 'dirty' Diesels falling foul of the new LEZ (the storage yard is not too far outside M25 and limit of LEZ!).

I felt a bit sad in a way, I love my caravan and no desire to change to a MH, but it could be the last caravan in town very soon!
