Thanks everyone we’ve decided on Chartres
We visited the cathedral years ago when the kids were young - what a fabulous place!
So we’ve decided to go there - unless the weather is crap!

Sad news on Ferme Des Aulnes! Used to always be our last stop before the journey home, plus we have has longer stays there as well!

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

Last year I came acrossThis site on the outskirts of Nantes. Direct access to the Loire, via towpath for dogs and bikes. A bit further than Chartres, but a fabulous city.

Chartres is much improved, a relatively new toiletblock, which is much better than the previous one! Gets quite busy though, so either book ahead or arrive early afternoon.

Same here with La Ferme des Aulnes, we used it quite a bit for the last couple of days before crossing back to the UK.

Fine cathedral in Chartres, a few low key museums, and late evening illuminations - but is there much to there much to see or do after that.? I never thought to stay more than a couple of days

Same here - "Son et Lumiere", visit the Cathedral during the day for the stunning stained glass windows - and that's about it.

In September I'd want to get down at least as far as the Loire
