We have just returned from a trip to Normandy to view the Standing with Giants silhouettes (amazing). Whilst there, we took a trip to Honfleur on the A13 and although there were signs saying peage, there were no pay booths. However there were signs on the overhead bridges and gantries saying pay on line. Evidently there are automatic number plate recognition cameras in operation. After our return back to base, we went on the Sanef website and were charged 11.20 Euros.
Having researched this, it appears that the "flux libre" is being slowly rolled out to increase the free flow of traffic which then means less polution. It's easy to pay on-line - must be done within 72 hours. Not sure how long the roll out will take, but thought I would give heads up.

We also saw signs for flux libre on A13 and found you can set up an account online and then choose whenever you pass a free flow gantry to either have automatic payment taken, or have an email to you to remind you to pay.

There’s no need to go on line to pay French Flux Libre tolls - with a tag on your windscreen it will all be done for you.

I think they’re agreeing with or endorsing the comments “above” about the tag, being pointed at by the ^^ arrows.

But if you're only an occasional toll road user, this new approach to collecting tolls will make the tags far less advantageous. No queues, no reaching over in a RHD car, no having to let in cold air at night an wake sleeping passengers.
Of the 12,000km of autoroute in France, about 75%, 9,000 km is peage with its attendant barriers etc. Even occasional toll road users are highly likely to come across pay stations and attendant inconveniences, which a tag minimises.
