Seasons Greetings folks✨🧑🏼🎄🎄🛫🌎⛺️🏔️
Has anyone ever backpacked and camped in Nepal? I’m particularly interested in visiting Annapurna sometime in the future and wonder if anyone has any stories and recommendations to share.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
That’s a niche question!
I assume you’re familiar with “the long walk in” for solo winter climbing Munros & the like.
You’ll probably get more info from google than from a handful of people on UKCS who’ve camped solo in the mountains of Nepal, but it’s always worth asking.
Based only on my personal experience (not camping, but heading off alone to a country where I couldn’t speak the language & the culture was very different) I’d go with an organised trekking group that can get you out if something serious happens. And you’ll probably make friends for life in a group too, which you’re less likely to do if you go solo.
I don’t know anyone who’s been to Annapurna but several who’ve climbed Kilimanjaro. All were assisted, not alone.
Think someone from my work did a sponsored thingy in that area once.

------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Michael Palin’s book “Himalayas” can be had second hand for £5 or so - he got to Annapurna base camp with a BBC film crew 20 years ago - but with a team of Sherpas carrying all their kit. You might perhaps find a DVD or a re broadcast of that trip on I player, but other blogs are plentiful. Good luck if you go.

A friend was in Nepal a month ago. One of his bucket list destinations and despite him being an avid walker - Pennine Way, Coast to Coast etc, whilst it was an experience it was tough going and not 'enjoyable'.
He flew across to Lukla for Everest, helicopter there (should have been aircraft, but for reasons he didn't understand a deal was done for a helicopter trip at a bargain price, aircraft back).
Altitude had far more of an effect than he expected with even the slightest incline needing stops to get osygenninto the blood. He stayed in backpacker lodgings, very cold at night so sleep wasn't easy and lack,of oxygen also affected him whilst sleeping.
So one of those to research, understand how fit you need to be and probably go with a group.
