This is academic really, but has been puzzling me. On FB, as soon as anyone asks about storing in France or Spain, up pops someone who says that caravans have to be French registered if they are in the country for a certain period (6 months?). If that is the case (and disregarding the hassles of making a UK caravan comply), how can it then be towed with a UK registered car once it has a French registration plate?

Is it possible that there is a bit of confusion with the bizz about trailers (any type) having to be registered separately for travel in France?
We have just done our caravan on the Gov website, quite easy, and then had the plate made up (recommend Westerntowing, on line, plate came next day!)
The car registration plate stays in the same place on the caravan, the caravan registration plate (Square) needs to be displayed, suggestions are back of the caravan upper left (it came with sticky's) or if you dont want to attach it to the van display in a rear offside window.
There was a long thread on here a while ago about all this which may have info re the storage side of things.

We've had our French built, German bought, stored in France, caravan ... towed by our UK car with a UK number plate (to match the car) for several years.
Never been a problem ...
Considering getting the new required plate made up in the UK and stick it on when we get to France.
