We are currently in a very shady and wooded site in the Dordogne and can hear (but not see!!) a Golden Oriole. It's quite close too. It made me remember previous posts here.

WE spent 15 years trying to see the damned bird. You could hear it close by but never visible..
Had lunch with ValA down in the Aude and mentioned our failure. She very smugly sent me photo when she returned home, of one sitting in a bush outside their house.
