Our RP insurance is due to expire shortly.
Has anyone either had personal experience of its replacement through the CMHC or heard reports about its effectiveness or otherwise?
Otherwise, any recommendations for the next best thing to RP?
We are 2 over-70s with a car, caravan and dog!
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
F.
We're in the same boat but have Nationwide Flex plus a/ac insurance to fall back on although their breakdown section is now with the AA - something which makes me wonder how good they would be. I have a quote for the MayDay cover for our next trip - £127.13. I don't think I would qualify for the new medical side but I am going to ask!
Shame- Red Pennant was do good when the cover was needed.

Quite probably too early for someone to have needed to make use of it.
I also get the feeling that because it is only breakdown cover and not a complete package like RP that it may not be so popular.
We for one didn’t use it and went elsewhere for personal cover and separate breakdown cover.
I don’t know the situation at CAMC but feel they should have worked harder to get a direct replacement for RP
I mean they get paid enough.

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Bofs, CAMC now offers insurance in two parts - Mayday European for breakdown/recovery, and Red Pennant for personal/medical cover.
I don’t know what your objection is to continuing with them but as you have a caravan AND a dog it may be best to stay with that - they offer better cover for those two items than some other companies.
Don’t jump ship without careful checking.

Surely the objection to not using the RP service is its not a one stop shop like it used to be!

And can you clarify what you mean by ‘they offer better cover for those two items than some other companies’ please.

A few examples of things which some insurances cover and some don’t.
If you wake up in a morning and find your caravan has a puncture will breakdown insurance cover it?
Or Will your insurance only cover the caravan while you are towing?
Will your breakdown insurance take you to the camp site you have booked two hundred miles away or just to a nearby garage?
If your car is dead and you need to repatriate with a dog how will you do that?
If your car is dead and it’s with a dog by train will your insurance pay for that?
If it’s with a dog in a French hire car will you have to pay to return car to France ?
Check.

I can tell you that all the breakdown cover that I looked at none of them included repatriation of dogs. So it’s just as well that it’s part of our dogs pet insurance.
Unlike the original RP which included that service.

I am not necessarily going to "jump ship", just wondering whether anyone has used the replacement offer yet and what the verdict is.
I chose to pay the premium price for RP for the reassurance that it was the best, but would like to know that the replacement is as good when put to the test.
As already stated, on the animal repatriation alone it’s not as good.
But you pay your money and hope for the best.
I just wasn’t impressed by the guy I spoke to on the phone, so went elsewhere.
