Am heading over to France with my family mid-August and looking to travel via Portsmouth/Caen. Does anyone have a voucher code I could, rather cheekily, take advantage of? Am being quoted £600 for a crossing in the car which is a bit soul destroying. Thanks a lot!

It also appears that CAMC have stopped doing discounted fares with BF (maybe BF are looking to boost profits on already expensive fares!), most other ferry operators have discounts through the club.
Never booked BF through CAMC when they did do discounts, always found better prices by other means!

TBH, I found the discount I got on joining Club Voyage and the other benefits you get on the sailing more than covered the initial joining fee plus the annual subscription fee (the initial fee is a once only).
The BF routes tend to be the longer routes which maybe a reason for their fares being more expensive in the first place?
Living within 3/4 of an hour from Portsmouth i would always take the BF ferries route if travelling from Caen south in France rather than the 3-4 hour drive up to the Tunnel or the Channel ports followed by the drive down from Calais or Dunkirk and lose a day.

Been doing the western Channel crossings a long time now, and used to favour P&O, but when they pulled out and BF took over the routes it was a bit of a kick in the wossits with the fare hike! BF fares have been high and never come down even when they became the dominant ferry company and had a lot of trade! They were the same on the UK-Spain routes they took over from P&O!
We've done the spreadsheets on cost/mileage/time analysis on all potential crossings, but despite BF fares, the Portsmouth-Caen crossing works out the best for us in overall cost (incl fuel to drive to and from other ports), overall mileage/journey time, and most convenient port departure/arrival timings (we favour the overnight crossings, with a cabin). It's not too difficult to find a cheaper ferry, but the gains are squandered on extra road miles, journey breaks either in UK or France so we're not doing silly long 'no sleep' journeys, and there is little overall financial gain, and/or far from the best ferry departure/arrival times, but a lot of inconvenience by comparison!
We did a 'cheap' alternative crossing once and it ruined our trip as we ended up very tired, clocked up a lot of extra road miles and it took days to recover properly, we were only on a long w/e trip! Frugal as we like to be on our trips, we do look at the overall experience and sometimes a little extra ferry cost brings large benefits beyond mere money.
We like to view the journey and ferry crossing as part of our holiday, so want it to be as enjoyable and relaxed as possible from the moment we leave home, not arrive 'frazzled' and stressed, and 'needing' a holiday to recover. Through trial and error, and some careful planning, we've pretty much nailed the perfect journey, and it's really not as expensive as the headline ferry ticket may imply!
