Camping Le Brasilia at Canet has been badly damaged by a wildfire, which started at St Marie le Mer, jumped the River Tet, and has destroyed many mobile homes at Le Brasilia. The full extent of the damage is being assessed as fire fighters are still on the scene.

Everyone on the site has been evacuated safely.

That must be horrendous for all. We are at camping de l’Olivigne at Bize-Minervois & very close to the fire at Oublia. Seeing all the smoke & plane’s & helicopters yesterday & today was very scary & unsettling; to have been evacuated & the impact on all involved must be awful. Glad all are safe & thanks to the firefighters who are working so hard

I hope you're all alright this morning Fiona. Those large scale fires are VERY frightening. We had one in the Corbieres last year and the devastation was awful, with huge areas burned.

All good here thanks Val. Most of what we saw was Wednesday. Smoke was visible again periodically yesterday but as I write, we can’t see anything. Amazing skills of a helicopter pilot yesterday, repeatly getting water from the Cesse, which is relatively small at present. Think we have been lucky with the wind direction, blowing across rather than at Bize Minervois.
Camping Brasilia looks devastated if the photos are correct on face book. Dreadful for the whole area, environmentally & the human cost. Hope you are safe.
Off to Millau today, the wind doesn’t look to be as strong there though very hot.

Fiona

We're fine. We're not in France at the moment, but our village had two fires in 2017 which were very scary, and the Canadairs, and the giant plane which drops water and fire retardant were flying really low over our terrace.

Happened to us at Les Sablons in 2017, fire on the dried out etang & next site. Very scary how quick things can happen: 2 Canada’s planes very low, pretty amazing! 4 here on Wednesday plus 2 dash planes & helicopters.

Watched some footage of the site, truly devastating.
Reminded me of the California wildfires and the total destruction of some small communities.
