We've just bought a new motorhome, it comes ready fitted for AC but we'd have to lose either the kitchen or the bedroom skylight to fit it, I'm not really sure if I'm prepared to do that.

There are underbed AC units available - but you'd lose storage areas and need ducting to get the cool air up to high level.

That's a non-starter but thanks

We lost our kitchen skylight to fit the AC ... not really made a gret difference to light levels as the anterior skylight is pretty large and windows all round provide plenty.

Cool interior v small light reduction ... no brainer for us!

May be a bit different for me, I've got a caravan with a LOT of windows and skylights, more than most MH's IMHO. TBH, with my skylights, the blinds are pulled much of the time, ESPECIALLY when sun is very bright, otherwise the caravan gets a bit too toasty (I've got a long (4ft?) one over seating, and the usual smaller one in kitchen area), so I wouldn't miss the 'light' if it was replaced by an A/C unit. I might miss the ventilation though when cooking, it's useful as virtually over the stove.

Before commiting to a A/C, spend a bit of time with the blind drawn and see if it makes it too dim for you.

I certainly wouldn't wan't another hole cut in the roof, it's another potential leak point, and another hole to some extent reduces the rigidity of the body shell. The roof also needs the bracing to take the substantial A/C weight wherever it's fitted, an existing skylight hole may well be already braced in anticipation of factory or retro fitting A/C.
