We did a couple of years ago, and their website says you can register and get the card from the terminal when you arrive. You then need to load the card with enough credit to pay for your stay (as you leave).
Was at Chablis a couple of weeks ago and it does not give out cards.

Thanks, I'd heard this from another forum so good to have it confirmed. The app is beyond my phone (OH's would take it) but considering you have to pay another €29 to be able to book in advance there's a perfectly good gîte for £53 so we may cut the faff and do that.
Is the site otherwise OK?
Thanks both.

We came across this for the first time this year on a couple of former municipals. I had already downloaded the app (easily done anyway) and was able to work out how to gain entry. You will have a unique number which you can use to gain entry to other sites too. Unfortunately they don't seem to directly charge the card you list with them, you have to use it to "load" the app. We put 30 euros on to start and can increase that if it gets low.
I would add that I am not particularly techy and it took a good 10 minutes the first time, but I felt very proud of myself. The next one we turned up at (Eymet) was quick and simple.

Thanks for that, we're not campervanners but tent tourers once or twice a year- our trips are planned in advance so to find one of these new systems is a real bottleneck on a trip and any unused balance would sit there for years. The gîte is only about £30 more than the site so I think we'll pass.
Yep really good site, facility block a bit tired , but serves a purpose.
Very handy for the town, probably a five minute walk if cutting through the park at the entrance.
Also great if you have dog(s) apart from the park there is a stream running through it.

Also, most of the camping car parks don't have toilet facilities so generally not suitable for tents. Except the ones designated camping de mon village, which do have toilet blocks open in the summer season.
That's partly the point of my question. This would most likely have been a one-off as we couldn't use most of these Pass-Étape sites.
Although they do seem to be proliferating.
Thanks for the brand info re Mon Village btw. Could save me some time in future.
