Has anyone taken there unit to Italy thinking of lake Maggiore or lake Garda cannot take my mind up any info would be appreciated please cheers in advance Dai
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Some will say you should drive across Germany and Austria and then over the Brenner Pass to Lake Garda..
My own preference would be to drive acrosFrance to the Swiss border at Basel - with pauses at Strasbourg and Alsace because I like them - and once in Switzerland to look at some of their lakes (Lucerne, Brienz,& Thun) and maybe if time permits get into Italy as far as the north end of Lake Maggiore.
It’s all personal choice.
We took the campervan to Lake Garda, where we had had hotel holidays and loved it. We chose to stay on a site on the east edge of the lake, about halfway up. Although you can travel round the lake by ferry/boat, it's quite a long way from south to north, so we chose a midway point. We found the north more interesting scenery wise as it has the mountains surrounding it. The east side is better driving, we found the west side a bit scary, even in a car.
The site we used had smallish pitches, I believe this is normal in Italy, so maybe you should choose carefully.
We camped beside Lake Maggiore which was lovely. Slight issue with electrics, the surrounding Italians seemed to have all sorts of strange wires hooked up and pretty much every day ours fused!
The journey we went via Mont Blanc tunnel (expensive). Route back into France along coast. Loads of tunnels, pretty hair raising towing, with the lorries and sunshine. En route to Lake Maggorie we stupidly followed the Sat Nav which took us through ridiculous lanes but beautiful villages, which we couldn't really appreciate at the time!!
