UK equipment is often only switched in the live lead so if polarity is reversed the circuit can be completed via you to earth even if switched off as the live is still live.

Cheers John--so its only a problem if you are plugging in uk appliances----arnt modern uk supplied appliances made to a euro standard tho?--they all appear to be marked CE I would have thought all modern appliances-kettles hairdryers etc would have double insulated (ie all wires disconected)switches--the reason I mention this is you see so many posts about reversed polarity & I'm wondering if people are worrying unnecessecarily!

If you use a table lamp for instance then it is only switched in the live

Many modern caravans have nicely coloured 230V sockets but most are not double pole switched .

For under £10 you can fix yourself up with a tester and reverse polarity lead so compared to the cost of the outfit (car/caravan/tent etc) its peanuts.

Well worth not risking it
