i'm off to france early in september with my girlfriend (both mid 20's, no kids..).. but can't decide on where abouts to head for.. I am thinking possibly the atlantic or Med coast, with a bit of a stop over in between.
i've not been to either area before but want some warmish sunny weather + a good mix of peace and quiet on site (no big kiddies play areas) and a bit nightlife close by....
any ideas?
additionally, can anyone advise how much the tolls would cost for such a trip? we are trying to have a cheapish holiday!!

If you have a look at the viaMichelin website you can go to their excellent route planner, which gives directions, speed camera locations and toll costs for journeys. If you tow a caravan, tolls are about 50% more than for a car.
You can also use that website to keep an eye on the 5 day weather forecast before you leave.
We would always choose the west coast for a holiday, and are going there in Sept too. The weather is great, and the beaches fantastic for surfing. Usually miles of free parking too, which is a bonus if you are on a budget and want to park at a beach all day. I can't comment on the nightlife, but those surfers must party somewhere, surely!!
Actually, I have just looked at your post again, and see you said the Atlantic coast. I would only be suggesting the coastal area south of La Rochelle for September, not Brittany or the Vendee, if you want the best weather.

If you like a cool surfing scene-the Gironde down to the Spanish border on the Atlantic coast is good-particularly towns like Lacanu Ocean or Hossegor-but the weather is not predictable-ie could be v hot but could be cool cloudy low 20s--if you want hot your best going to the Med-in Sept it will not be too crowded--
cheers for the advice, i think by the sounds of it the atlantic coast is favorite.. will just keep heading towards spain until it gets warm enough.... any recomendations on the best places to stop on the journey south of La Rochelle??
Or you could be totally daring and go for a volcano, river and gorge holiday like we did! WE loved the Puy de Dom area around Clermont Ferrand and spent 11 nights there in June this year. Really hot and lovely lovely area. We kayaked for 10km down a gorge and did lots of wandering around lovely forests, along rivers and in quaint towns like Charroux. Vichy is fantastic for a little more activity with great shopping and a lovely river walk right near the centre.

Oh you jammy beggar! I'm so jealous - just love ALL of France but have to say that the med has the edge in my book. Got room for a stowaway, ageing hippy walks with a limp?
Btw, the Atlantic has the coldest, (and I mean freezing), water if you're that way inclined. Med far warmer
Sure you haven't got room for a stowaway? Second thoughts you'd better not say, even you have - you'd be inundated!!!!!! Have a great time - as if you need telling!
decisions decisions... both are made out to be equally appealing.. i suppose the only answer is to do one coast this spept + visit the other next year.... but for the time being i think i'll look at the weather forecast the day before + if its predicting sun on the atlantic coast i'll head down there as it seems quicker + cheaper.. if not, the med it is..
just got back tonight from Biscarrosse South West France , and the weather has been warm 25 degrees but plenty of cloud. next year i will be going to the French Med to hopefully garrantee the sunshineand not the clouds, even so i enjoyed the holiday .
