Just about to go off to France, have bought a bit of cable, plug and socket to wire up in reverse - which end do we reverse the wires in? The plug, the socket or both? We have also got a continental adaptor so can we plug our normal cable into the short reversed cable and that into the adaptor cable? We have a mains tester as well.

Hello Louisa, you have to change the wires over on the socket end of the continental adaptor, not the plug end, just swap the blue and brown over, have a good time in France all the best.

Thanks for that. I'm sure it will all be quite straightforward when we get there! 21

Just make sure that ANYTHING you make up yourself is waterproof and made from outdoor quality parts. And that you absolutely know what you are doing.

Really, the best way to go about this is to buy two proper continental EHU adaptors which have the Universal blue fitment on one end and a sealed continental EHU plug fitting on the other. Then you reverse the wiring (live and neutral) in the blue part of one, which is the only end you can open anyway. Then mark this adaptor clearly as reversed polarity. None of this is expensive (I think the EHU adaptors were about £6 each at my local camping shop) Then you just use the adaptor that suits the polarity.

That way you can be as sure that your equipment is as safe as possible....it`s still not as safe as your house electrics, but far safer than trying to make a home-made adaptor when you`re not totally sure what you are doing.
