Never camped in France but have had many holidays over there over the years. I'm hoping that OH can take the whole of August off next year for this very purpose. Thinking about mid-France somewhere or further south towards the Alps a bit - not sure yet.
As it's for so long, I need to consider things like facilities, etc. Should I take my own loo? Can I buy the stuff for it easily? How do I know I'm getting a good site? It would be a nightmare to spend a month somewhere that turned out to be a real dive. Not bothered about entertainment or a pool but don't want to be too basic.
Ideas please guys!

I'm no bother and very unobtrusive, you won't even notice I'm there! Listen:
Butt ugly, long red hair, freckles, walks with a limp and flower power walking stick, wearing dream catcher dangling from surgical collar and prone to flatulence! Sounds like the ideal travelling companion eh?
Just spent 3+ weeks in France but in a folding camper.
Previous years we booked through travel companies - eg. Select Sites and Caravan and Camping. This year we chanced the municipal sites which proved fantastic. If you are concerned to that degree, get hold of as many books as you can find on French campsites - the Alain Rogers, AA, and Michelin ones are the ones I use and I check out the write ups in each.
Most sites have good sanitary facilities - but take toilet paper!
It's up to you, in the same way as it would be in this country, what type of facilities you require and select accordingly.

Just returned from a 3 week caravanning holiday in France, and 'Yes' Municipal Sites are superb value. Another good source of sites - graded from 'quiet & basic' to 'busy & all facilities' - is the Michelin 'Camping France Selection Guide' published annually. Enjoy!

Hi and welcome!

Please Do NOT take your British toilet paper to use in French loos! Most French loos (like ours) run through a Fosse Septique, which finds it very difficult to break down British loo roll unless treated first by the Elsan chemicals. Buy your French loo roll in any supermarket, it will be kinder to the Fosses!
Le Trefle is a brand very like Andrex. It even has a picture of a Labrador puppy on the packaging!
Wow, look EVERYBODY somebody who isn't put off by my beauty, allure and freckles -at last!!!!
But I'm going to have let her down gently, coz I'm not at all sure that I want to be spending time with this kind of person. I mean, she's obviously got to have THE worst eyesight and definitely no sense of smell, so don't you tell her, I'll do it in a kind and sensitive way. (see my appealing description on earlier post!)
Here goes!

Well, thanks so much for your kind offer , but having just checked the calendar and seen that your hols coincides with a full moon, I'm gonna have to pass I'm afraid. Shame I know.
I'll be too busy having my full body wax and trimming me fangs that week, so you have a gr8 time and maybe we can do this next time......
Cor, good job I didn't mention about me being a female werewolf and vampire too, coz that might just have put her right off eh? And there's me thinking the flatulence might have done that anyway! How daft!
Well I was going to say you're welcome to come with us as long as you don't mind either clinging to the roofbox or hanging onto a rope at the back - we'll provide the skateboard. Definitely no room in the car.

Well, that sounds so-o-o much more inviting mate! Cheers for that, but as already mentioned that's the time I'm due for another full body waxing and fangs trimming..... Only just finishing up from this weekends full moon. Tsk, the things we women have to do to remain looking so-o-o-o beautiful......lol
