Ha! Ha!---a lot of French pools have on their list of does & donts, a little shorts with a cross thru it symbol--as usual in France rules are not enforced & I have never seen this one enforced--I would guess a possible reason is so you dont go in the pool wearing the shorts you have been wearing all day---so praps take a pair of speedos-its up to you--they sell'em in large French supermkts,anyway---I think campsites should have a little symbol with a cross thru it depicting a 20stone, middleaged German wearin' a tiny pair of Speedos----
Yep this is true- the men and boys cannot wear swim shorts in the pools. You are ok for the beach or Aqualand. If you can't get any here in Asda or Tesco today before you go many campsites will sell you some. If you can find a Decathalon they are selling them in their sale for a few Euros. Where abouts in SOF are you going- have just returned today.
just read Billy's post- our lifeguards were VERY strict and sent any man or boy away if wearing shorts.
Every French campsite I have been on in the last 6 years have told boys to get out of the pool without trunks. They don't have to be skimpy- you can wear boxer types.
we stayed on two sites in france, one enforced this rule, the other didn't so I would say its all down to the individual site. were by the river dordogne so my boys spent all their time swimming there & didn't go back to the pool!
This subject has come up many times ......... I have been refused access to a pool in M&S swim shorts .......it depends on the site...some enforce the "speedo" rule some dont ......just be prepared and have both types of swim- wear with you .
On our campsite last year there were 2 German kids (10-ish) in the pool in long shorts & they got chucked out. As the dad didn't speak French the campsite lady got me to translate. It's their department of hygiene and health that stipulates speedos or those speedo shorts because anything else might be construed to be washing! It's a bit like our Health and Safety, who go mad from time to time. Madame campsite also said her Dutch guests had told her some pools there require bathing caps as an anti-head-lice precaution. This is also the case in Italy.
It seems to be mainly Municipals who apply the rule ... and sites where the pool filter has got clogged one time too many.
Likewise, rash vests (un lycra) are ok, but t-shirts aren't.
