Hi, next summer we are planning to tow our caravan from Calais to Sant Pere Pescador. We would appreciate advice on the best route and stopover sites. We are considering one or two stops on the way and two on the jouney back.
Thanks Sonya

For route advice, could you say if you are prepared to use toll roads, or prefer to stick to the main, free, national routes (equivalent to our A roads)?
Toll costs are increased if you tow a large trailer or a caravan.
Hi,Going to Camping Amfora by any chance?. We are planning to go there next year. However we've plumped for the P&O Portsmouth to Bilbao ferry crossing. A whopping £980 for 5 plus car and folding camper but the Tesco vouchers will just about cover it so seems like its for free. Even then we have quite a drive from Bilboa across Spain of about 6-7 hours.
Did think about driving from Calais and would get there about the same time as using the ferry given that you are on the ferry 2 nights going over (only 1 night coming back) but just seemed like too much driving and the thought of going all the way back was even less appealing.
Hello SonyaR. We go to the Costa Brava every year,(have done so since 1984).We have tried all routes but we prefer to use the autoroutes from Calais.
The motorway starts at Calais Port and goes all the way to Alicante and beyond. If required, you need not come off as you can sleep on the services(we use municipal sites adjacent).
We use the A26 via Reims, then Dijon, Lyon(A46 round Lyon),A7 then A9 to the border. Then its about 30/40 miles to the Sites. The tolls this year was 116 euros(one way for car/caravan).
