Hi!  We are off to Cyprus this summer to visit family.  Unfortunately, things have been financially "tight" and this means camping.  Camping is good, we do it quite a bit in UK, but I am concerned about getting suitable gas cannisters for our little gas stove which we are taking.

We bought it from Lidl's and it appears to be universal in so much as all the instructions are in every language from English to Greek and beyond.  However, my sister, who is renovating a village house in the Troodos, is sceptical that we would be able to get cannisters to fit.

Any advice would be welcome!!

Glenys

Hi Glenys

Jo & I are great lovers of Cyprus & we have holidayed there more times then we can remember! We nearly moved there instead of buying our campsite here in France.

You will have no problem getting gas bottles in Cyprus they are sold every where as the villiges don't have mains gas.

You will have a problem finding campsites! I only know of one in the east of the island.

Thank you for that.  We're camping at a site in the Troodos which is a "Greek" site.  My sister and husband have camped there twice.  The showers and loos are clean, there's a small camp shop and a taverna.

It is a place to escape the heat of the summer for the Cypriots - up high under pine trees.  Hopefully our 12 yr old won't be too bored.....

Not a place to go if you want to be with a predominantly English group - my sister and hubby have been the only English on the site both times.  This time there'll be us too!

There are other sites at Governor's Beach, Episkopi;  Geroskipou; Paphos (Coral Bay area) and Polis - which is a lovely area, near to the Akamas Peninsula.  The facilities are limited so don't be tempted if you need on-site entertainments, swimming pools, etc!!

Now it's a case of weighing tents, beds etc....Must admit I'm more than a little apprehensive - 2 weeks is a long time under canvas for me!

Hi Glenys

I will be up in the trudos mountains again very soon and also have a planned trip their again in August

My friend is having a houise built in the mountains above the village of Lanya it should be finished by August, we solved the camping issue by putting a carvan on the land he owns.

as stu says the gas will not be a problem especially in the city of limasos

Thanks, alsparker!!

The village my sister has her ruin (and I jest not) isn't far from Lanya - it's Sylikou.

My sister is a bit eccentric and most of the family were horrified (especially the ones who live in Yeroskipou) when her and her hubby took on this project.  I say good luck to them!  (Even though I've dubbed the house "Sylikow Castle"........
