Hi Karen,
Judging by last Easter's weather, I'd say yes, it IS ok to tent camp with kids. As long as you have decent sleeping bags, maybe a EHU to run a small heater, there's no problem at all. Like I said, we were walking round here in Tee-shirts, while the UK had very heavy rains. I know because I was getting textx off my mates who were on the UKCS Meet that I'd organised up in Whitby. Average temp at any time of year's usually 5 or 6 degrees higher than the UK. The Loire's the place in France where the climate turns to a more 'mediterranean' one, rather than the one experienced by the south coast of the UK.
We're close to Saumur, by the way. A really pretty chateau town on the Loire itself.
I don't think many of the bigger sites are open at easter, they tend to open on the 1st May through to the end of September, whereas the smaller ones, (like us) are open all year, either for our gites, or for camping.
If you'd like more info, just drop me an e-mail?
HTH.
