Would anyone be able to tell me whether camping in the Loire in late April (18th'ish for 1 week) is bearable weather-wise?

We camped in the UK last year in May (half-term) and froze!!!   Don't mind about the days but the nights were difficult - the youngest of our children hardly slept in three nights as he was so cold.

Therefore, we are a tad worried about going somewhere as early as Easter......

Cheers!

Hi!

We were in the Loire last year buying our place, and the weather was fantastic! It was in the late teens/early twenties while the UK suffered heavy rain, with snow in some parts!

We now live here, we run a campsite & gites in the Loire, and we're open all year! Hope to see you soon!

Would you really say its ok to tent camp with kids at easter? That would be great ,we have a caravan but could do the Loire with tent and car much quicker and squeeze an extra holiday in. What would the average temp be at thna ttime of year?

Stayed at Chanteloup last year which was nice and also another castels site in Loire which was awful, which town are you nearest to?

Hi Karen,

Judging by last Easter's weather, I'd say yes, it IS ok to tent camp with kids. As long as you have decent sleeping bags, maybe a EHU to run a small heater, there's no problem at all. Like I said, we were walking round here in Tee-shirts, while the UK had very heavy rains. I know because I was getting textx off my mates who were on the UKCS Meet that I'd organised up in Whitby. Average temp at any time of year's usually 5 or 6 degrees higher than the UK. The Loire's the place in France where the climate turns to a more 'mediterranean' one, rather than the one experienced by the south coast of the UK.

We're close to Saumur, by the way. A really pretty chateau town on the Loire itself.

I don't think many of the bigger sites are open at easter, they tend to open on the 1st May through to the end of September, whereas the smaller ones, (like us) are open all year, either for our gites, or for camping.

If you'd like more info, just drop me an e-mail?

HTH.

We stayed in Saumur at Easter two years ago. The weather was really warm and sunny, so our planned tour was abandoned in favour of 9 days of sunworshiping.
