We are  hoping to go to Northern Spain for 3 weeks this summer with our motorcaravan. Has anyone some suggestions for:

1) inland places to visit and campsites  and

2) campsites that are on the coast that are reasonably quiet and not too large

Yes try 'Playa Joyel' at Noja.  It is about midway between Bilbao and Santander and a really good site - lots of pitches some huge some small but a good choice and right next to a beautiful beach.  We had a fantastic holiday there travelling on the Pride of Bilbao from Portsmouth straight to Bilbao.  It is in the CCC Carefree brochure but no doubt there is a web site.  It has a large pool, shop snack bar restaurant and even a sound proofed night club for the younger ones.

Lots of great places to see, the Picos mountains are stunning and we spent several days out just driving on a mystery tour and every time we were 'wowed' by places and scenery we saw.

Thoroughly recommend!

I would agree with the last post.

Camping Playa Joel is superb. It is a huge site, but well located next to a superb beach, and the local town has some excellent bars & restaurants, priced more for spanish holiday-makers rather than the costa-rip-off prices we normally get.

Leave some room for the Rioja on the way back, you won't see this stuff or prices at Tescos!

Santillana Del Mar is a medieval town with a great campsite. It's about half an hour drive from Santander.

I agree with all the above posts, LLanes and Andrin are nice opn the coast and Potes in the Picos where you can get the cable car from Fuente De, its a beautiful unspoilt area.
