When we head off to France every summer we take a large estate car full plus a top box. And there's only 3 of us!
The 2 chairs and one sun lounger seem to take up the most room. Then there's our h-y-uuuge tent (huger this year cos I won one on lovely UKCS!) 3 sleeping bags and airbeds, the cooker.....and 3 plastic crates full of stuff and things! We'd love to take a 4th person but we'd never get them in the car!
Is it like this for everyone? Any good ideas for cutting down?
Liz

In my experience, the best way of cutting down on stuff you put in the car is..... take a trailer to put it all in! Then you have plenty of room to put everything in... and, if you go to France, bring back plenty of cheap wine!
We take to much .... far toooooooooo much ....... but you can bet if I leave something behind, it's the one thing I can't live without ......... No. 1 item being cheese grater .... have loads, should be one on each unit ....... but never the unit we are in

Dont worry Liz.....you are not in same ball park as a French family......I have seen a transit van turn up and a couple of guys errect a village with full size fridges patio furniture ...and domestic full size cookers the day prior to the families arriving on site ................take what makes for a comfortable stay .....dont forget the telly .

Just take what you need.If you don't use it don't take it.I have things in the van I bought because they were cheap,or I have got to have one things,Half the time never use them.We just had a megga clear out of the van,I we have'nt used it then it's gon!
Thanks for all your tips
We take 3 big toyboxes (Curver crates) full of stuff and we probably ought to weed them out a bit. One just has shoes and toilet bags. We just **can't** need more than 2 pairs of shoes each. Can we?
Also, the Hubster won't go anywhere without 2 down pillows to rest his curly locks. We could do with those plastic bags you suck the air out of maybe, but they all seem to fit a domestic vacuum rather than the little electric pump we use for the airbeds. We've got the sleepingbags in stuffsacs, which helps a bit I spose.
Hi Lizex, It's alright us advising you, but many of us have caravans or somethig like a trailer - we have no room to advise. We started camping with a trailer anda tent and all the stuff you need. Our rule was pack it in the trailer first, limit toys (we have an only child). I have to say, as the years progress, we take less and less each year!. We are not necessarily looking to eat out posh each night, we would rather go for longer and self cater. The TV only comes with us in the UK.
We have a payload capacity of 680KG. I take two pairs of shorts and a bottle of suncream - she manages to use up the other 679.5 kg with stuff that stays packed until we come home

Yep can relate to that! Used to take at least 2 outfits a day ( cos you never know!) I have now decided you can wear the same pair of shorts for 2 or 3 days. Tim wears the same pair all holiday ( "I am saving you from all that washing dear!")and do you know the french even have washing machines- well I never!
