Hi we normally spend two weeks in Annecy but this year would like to split the two weeks and take in some sun and sea. Any recomendations , we are traveling through Calais.

The Mediterranean coast is less than 300 miles from Annecy so perfectly possible. I have some details on my website but it would be useful to have an idea of where you would like to be as there are lots of campsites along the coast.
If you are missing out Annecy this year in favour of the beach, then how about looking at the west coast of France. The Vendee, Charente Maritime and all points down to Biarritz are very popular, and have a good sunshine record too! We like the Royan area, long sandy beaches and loads of free parking. Sites vary from small family run to all-singing all dancing.

Isle d'Oleron is the most French part of that coast IMHO [but I have not been to its upper class twin Isle de Re]
Great beaches but not a whole lot more on the island
Loads of great beaches and more to do near La Palmyre -
I'd aviod camping La Pinede but had good times to several other sites {Hired a mobilehome at Pinede and found the matresses were disgusting - They said they had no replacements - so I put them on display on the terrasse and withing 10 minutes the replacements they didn't have arrived - other disappointment was that we were there when a gang of Brit teenagers were looking for trouble - little games like setting the 8 year olds to fight each other for their amusement - hardly a stress free holiday}
Consider a week at the beach and a week on a river Dordogne? - Its a formula that works for us.
Hi Brad - We avoid large Vendee sites now too. Isle d'Oleron is very much more french - It is our experience that they don't do the drunken lout thing but it is more dificult for your kids to mix if you are the only UK family as we found ourselves at http://www.verebleu.tm.fr/index.html
good site but very french and the wrong end/side of teh island to give easy access to best beaches [Grand Plage]
FWIW we are off for a week at Argeles sur Mer at camping Le Soliel- I am happy that it seems to be as good a selection as it was when we took advice and booked it in January.

We had the same experience at St Hilaire completely put us off the vendee thought it was like Blackpool all circus, funfairs and bungee jumping -hated it!
Hi, we are off to Argeles sur mer this year staying at le soliel . This area has very good beaches and is so relaxing that we go to this area most years
