Hi we are planning a two week holiday to the southwestly part of france in the summer 2007, our party consists of 2 adults & 2 children ( 7 & 9 ). We are taking our own tent & ideally would like to spend the major part of the fortnight in the southwest. Can anyone recommend any good campsites that are not too rowdy?
This summer we are flying to the Dordogne but staying in a friends farmhouse, we will have a hirecar for a fortnight so can check out any suggestions given around this area. We are totally open to any suggestions route wise & would appreciate any input.

The reason we are looking now is so that we can check some out while we are over there this summer. I think we may need to stop over one night at least on each journey as it is a bit far for the children.

We looked at area around messenges, which looked lovely, however we are going to south east instead this year, as daughter wanted to see it as she intends working there next year.

Another 'Oui' for Domme here. We stayed there (ina house) a couple of years ago and it is beautiful and the weather is genraly fab. If you only do one splashout thing all hloliday then I HIGHLY recommend the restaurant that overlooks the valley. Cant remember its name but there is only one really posh one there and that is it. Food was heaven!
No, there are (at least) two. One more posh, but a smaller one on the other end of the square. Terrace actually situated nearer to the cliff. Preferred that one to eat outside.

The castel of Castelnaud is a beautiful castle to visit, can be combined with Domme very well.
And Rocamadour of course is well known place to visit.
Another vote for Messanges. We camped at the Albret Plage in 2003 & it was lovely. There weren't a whole lot of English speakers on the site though (there were on the beach and in town).
If I went again I'd go to Le Vieux Port (levieuxport.com) where there were lots of Brits and a pool complex etc. It seemed lively but not over the top, if you know what I mean.
There were plenty of nice looking sites in the area though ... something for everyone... and there was plenty to do locally. We went here (moulin-de-galoppe.com) and caught trout with a simple hook and line. My son caught 2 trout and I caught one thumb and had to be invalided out. Apart from that, it was a magic place There's a little zoo too and you can feed the deer.
ey up floydfan, will look through t`net for ferries. yorks sends its regards ! took kids camping this weekend 1st time ( haworth ) they loved it, the campsites in france look great.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
