Has anyone been to this site? www.actinidias.com Just did a search for "Ardeche" and this was recommended but not by someone who had been there. It does seem like our perfect site.

We are hoping to camp in the Ardeche this summer, haven't decided where yet. If you look on http://www.alanrogers.com you will find lots of sites in that area with comments on what they are like. Quite a useful site.

We stayed here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=4963
a couple of years ago and it was lovely. They have a pool and the river but it's a smallish family-type site. Not a lot of other Brits though.

We spent 10 days at Les Actinidias last summer, from 15th July. We had booked beforehand and it was just as well! The site has 100 touring pitches, and it was completely full when we arrived, although they had saved our pitch as promised. During the time we were there, I don't think that more than 6 or 8 pitches came vacant - so I wouldn't advise turning up on spec during the main season. The site is sandwiched between the cliffs (spectacular rock-climbing) and the river Sassejac. Pitches average about 100 sq metres with plenty of shade (very much needed - temps around 30-35 cent when we were there), but access roads very narrow giving a fairly cramped feel to the whole site. However, the river, just 40-50 metres away was a delightful place to swim, bask on the rocks watch the local youths diving 80 metres plus into the pools and generally unwind. There were plenty of kids on site, but they spent their whole day in the river, amusing themselves dive-bombing the passing canoeists - a very popular pastime on the Ardeche rivers! There is a small shop, bread daily if ordered the night before, and a snack bar. There is also a very decent restaurant just 100 metres or so from the site entrance, with a lovely terrace. We were ready to move on after 9 or 10 days, just looking for a change of scenery really, but if you have a couple of kids between say 7 and 14, they would have a ball as long as they could swim OK, and I don't think you'd hardly see them all day. Although the site was full, we were the only Brits there (not a problem!), mainly French, a few Belgians, Dutch, Germans etc. Everyone seems to visit the Ardeche for the watersport, mainly canoeing, but the scenery is magnificent. Recommended for an active family holiday
... and a tent if you're planning on camping out halfway down. Those that decided to sleep out under the stars got a rude awakening a few times during the night when the campsite was invaded by herds (?) of wild boar scavenging for food!!
The two day trip is a fantastic experience, but it is hard work. Minimum age for kids doing the trip is 7. We did it last year with our four aged 12, 10, 9 and 7.
