We go to Brittany every year(got back on Sunday after 5 weeks!) and we always take out travel/health insurance with C & CC etc.

Its very important to declare any existing illnesses/conditions as we know of at least 2 late friends who died on rallies abroad and had not declared heart condition and cancer.

Their relatives were then obliged to bring the bodies back at their own expense

We wouldn't go without insurance as unfortunately in the past we have had to use it a couple of times. I had my appendix removed and was in Concarneau hospital for 10 days and although the E111 covered a small proportion of the costs it was our insurance company who paid most of the bills.

Also two years ago our after a day out we returned to our caravan to find that flash floods had severely damaged our awning and dented the caravan. As the children were sleeping in the awning and everything was soaked we had to return home early. We were originally booked on a day crossing but our insurance company paid the difference for us to get an overnight crossing so we could get home sooner!

Especially having two young children we wouldn't go without insurance as accidents do happen. Even treatment for something like a broken arm could end up costing you a lot without insurance.

We always take it out- usually with Sainsburys. This year we took out multitrip.

My dad died while in France- you never know whats round the corner.

Have to agree with all the above comment, good insurance cover is vital. Several years ago I travelled with my husband, my father and my eldest son (then 4) to Austria while my youngest son aged 18 months stayed at home being pampered by his Nanna. Within one day of us arriving at our holiday destination, my young son had been admittted to hospital with a frantic nanna, auntie etc in tow. As it was Easter weekend, flights were full and everyone was upset. After one call to the insurance company we were on the next flight home, my father included, who wasn't even on the policy. Everything was arranged with outstanding and excellent service by the insurance company. Young son was diagnosed with pneomonia and we spend 1 week in hospital instead of holidaying. But everything turned out fine and I cannot thank the insurance company enough!
