We are of in our caravan to the french alps this friday, and we are looking for a touring base to see the sites. Quite with views, and within walking distance off a village would be good, not bothered about pools and bars being on site. Any recomendations? Any must see and do while we are there? Yep, Grand Bornand is good, so is the campsite at Pralognan La Vanoise. A bit of a haul up to it but its on the edge of the National Park and an easy walk into the village. We have been there in deep snow and late spring sunshine. Either way its a fantastic location to stay in.
Hiya, we are currently residing at L'escale but we return on Friday - shame! The site is very full as they are leasing new chalets to Thomsons and so the rally pitch has been used for this purpose and there is a rally in progress with 25 vans now pitched in the touring field.
Some of the pitches are quite small and rock pegs are essential that is for sure! Campsite is so so, will do proper review when we get back. Make sure you pre book would be my advice as the area in general seems quite busy.
Have a great time. Lots of big electrical storms at night this last fortnight but very hot by day. Make sure you have warm bedding because it is dropping considerably in the evenings.
Spent a couple of nights in little campsite at Les Gets last Summer. Perched on side of mountain about a mile from the centre of the village. Fabulous views to Mont Blanc from most pitches. Only cow bells to destroy the peace. Village lovely with lots of summer leisure activities on offer and plenty of restaurants. Pleasant swimming lake nearby. Close to Morzine and not far from Chamonix. Perfect!
