Has anyone got any experience with the longer ferry crossings when you have a dog with you i.e. Can you visit, excercise them at all?

And yes our Basset is spoilt, and can howl for England if he gets a moody on...

Up until now we've always used the tunnel, but it's a fair trek from Cumbria and having crossed Hull - Zeebrugge with just the car in the past it seems quite a civilised way of doing it.

Nick

Hi Nick

We took our Sheltie on the Portsmouth - Le
Havre crossing last year and he was fine. They did let us go and have a look at him to make sure he was alright but you can't take the dog out of the car so I don't think its worth disturbing them really. Our Sheltie is not terrific in the car and we did get some sedatives from the vets, so he just slept. We made sure he had plenty of water of course. He was absolutely fine though and we are doing the same thing this year.

There were plenty of other dogs on the same crossing and they all seemed fine as far as I know as well. I did get the vets advice before we took him last year and she did not think there would be any problems but she did advise the sedatives and they certainly did the trick.

I hope you and your Basset have a good trip!

Kelly

similar here...just done harwich to hook..6hr crossing, our dog loves the car and I think was better left alone with water to sleep....he was fine, mind you I would use the tunnel again as I was bored!!
