To be honest when i'm on the ferry back i'm telling myself keep left keep left AND STILL I have gone on the "wrong" side when in my own country, that's how easy you adjust over there..........embrace it! metroman

I've always found it very straightforward.  You follow everyone else off the ferry anyway and after that it just seems natural to be on the other side of the road. As stated above, you have to think twice when you come home.

Vic

I don't think many people in the south would agree with you about the good drivers.

I can only speak as I find Voyageur.

Driving in Central London and spending large amounts of my working day on the M25 prior to retiring held no fears for me. Hence getting in amongst them in France around big provincial city periphiques and the Daddy of them all, the Paris Periphique held no fears for me either. Also driving many thousands of miles in America ie New York, Boston, Miami, Tampa were as easy as well.

I have NEVER encountered the bunching that you get on English motorways in France. Perhaps the French display greater caution around an outfit which is all round the wrong way to them!

I do sometimes wonder if our driving on the left has something to do with a lot of our traffic problems because I don't seem to encounter any of them when driving on the right.

Vic

Hi Vic, I think you are probably right about about the French drivers being cautious around foreign outfits.
I drive around in a locally registered Clio in a country district and see what they are normally like.
Probably the Parisiens are rather more disciplined.

Dead right. I've never driven a hire car in France so I don't know. Obviously I have in America and didn't encounter any probs. but then their style of driving is very different anyway - much more defensive with very little aggression. That said, driving in Miami and it's environs had a distinctly latino flavour and in Boston they displayed a distinct indifference to speed limits.

Quite a lot like here..............

Vic
