I have booked an overnight stop at the Formula 1 in Rouen (Expo Park) and from reading old messages I read Rouen is a bit of a nightmare to drive in.

I am arriving in Boulogne at 16:00 hrs (this Sunday) heading for the Vendee and don't mind doing a little bit of driving on Sunday but should I stop sooner or later or stick with the above. ????   I will be travelling with a trailer as well so security is also a concern.

My intended route is in the direction of Abbeville / Rouen / le Mans / Nantes

Help as I am now confused !!

We have always managed to get through Rouen without a problem by following the roadsigns to the next town we need. Everywhere is clearly signposted right through the town. I have never stayed there but the hotel chains tend to be on the outskirts of towns so you should be ok.

We went via Rouen both ways this year and it was absolutely fine.  The only advice I would give is to follow the road signs rather than Mappy if they differ - we did this on the way back and it was quicker taking us on a bigger road rather than through the industrial estates.  It is SO much easier than negotiating Paris, honestly!  Other than that Mappy was excellent  - not one wrong turning the whole journey!  We got the same ferry as you and stayed in a Municipal at Blagny north of Rouen- far enough for us but we were coming down from Scotland.   

All large French towns and cities can be difficult to drive through when they are busy. You at least have the advantage that you arrive on a Sunday which will be fairly quiet.
