I noticed from a search I did on this campsite that a few of you were planning to go this summer to Le Vieux Port.  How did it go? Any info on how toilet blocks coped under pressure, size of pitches, cycle tracks etc etc would be much appreciated.

Hello lizzie,

Returned from 3 weeks in july from Le vieux port , we had a good time, site got very busy ,swimming pool  too small for size of site, the beach is fantastic we spent a lot of time there, lifeguards very efficient, super rollers if youre a surfer, we went with eurocamp independent purely because of the kids clubs, toilet / showers were good but sometimes busy but not a major problem.good cycle routes, super u supermarket near to the camp site , spar supermarket on site, we arrived on site on the 1st of July and got a decent pitch, but as the second and 3rd week came pitches were cramped. CAUTION REVERSE POLARITY ON THIS SITE , they also use french plugs for the hook ups, you could do with finding one before you go, or the site will sell you an adaptor for 20 euros, also if youve got an awning beware because of sap from the trees ,it made a real mess of ours ,like glue.

Im glad we went it was good, plenty to do and see in the area, weather cloudy but warm first week bit of rain second and third week hot and sunny

Enjoy

Thanks for the info.  I was worried about the size of the pitches once things got busy as se would want a pup tent alongside ours and a day shelter to cook in.  My daughter is really keen to go but we are also looking at inland hols for a change.

Booked our week here with Keycamp.
Nice site close to beach, but as we expected was very busy.
Our Mobile Home was excellent with a balcony, but the space we had was minimal.
A lot of shading by trees meant we were not in direct sunlight, which was an advantage to a certain extent!
Bike hire was reasonably cheap.
Excellent facilities on site. Our two daughters, aged 13 and 11 really enjoyed the 'Base' club abd club for 10 - 12 year olds.
Key camp staff very helpful.
Worth a visit to Vieux Boucou - noce beach, shops and restaurants.

Hi,

havent been this year but went about 6 years ago and it was a very nice site. You have to like big and busy though!. It suited me at the time as I had teenagers but I would go for something quieter now they are off my hands.

You need transport as there is not much within walking distance except an excellent beach and the area is very wells erved with bike tracks etc. Good supermerket a short drive away.

I had a folding camper at the time and we got that, a gazebo and a pup tent + estate car relatively easily on the pitch. The friends I went with were in a static ( I think keycamp) and I must say they seemed a lot more packed in than us tourers.

I would echo the comments about the trees, all pitches are under pines which is great for shade but you have to watch for the resin and get it cleaned off if you get some on the car cos once its dried its a divil to get off.

Le vieux Boceau was very nice and you can run up to Arcachon if you want a full day out and seen the huge dune ( La Pile?).

We also found a couple of good markets within bike riding distance.

All in all I would say good site if you have a family, probably best a little out of peak as most these big sites are. Not one though if you are looking for small and tranquil ( which only grumpy old men like me do!!!!).

Hope you have a good time if you go.

Post some photos.

Hi Lizzie,

Imagine Butlins,Haven and others all jammed into one place  and this is my opinion of this site. Just got back from there and quite frankly the place is an accident waiting to happen in relation to the amount of Caravans and Tents pitching far too close to one another.I booked in January and specifically asked for a large pitch as our caravan is 6.25 metres long. When we arrived we were shown to our pitch which we would never got our van on in a million years .After explaining this to the young lad he showed us another one which again was too small .I then asked for a full refund which they refused so we had to make do with a pitch that by the time we had put our awning up we had 6 inches at the back of the caravan as there was a pine tree there and 2 feet alongside the awning. Then a motorhome pulled up next to us and I could have shaken hands with him whilst siiting in our caravanWe were meant to have been there for two weeks but we had had enough after 10 days as there was no way we could sit out and relax around our caravan. It totally ruined our holiday and I would'nt go back to that site ever again.
