Let me know how you get on. We live in Hawarden & have kids of 4 & 8. We intend going to France next year.
At the moment I was thinking of Travel Lodging it near Dover & getting an earlyish start, stay at a Formula One, get down the Dordogne for 8 or 9 days, then 8 or 9 days in the Loire before heading back.
How long will it take you to drive to the Dordogne?
I know what you mean about the drive home, it is exciting going but awful coming back We lived in Brighton for a few years so travelled a lot up and down the country I do really hope it is nicer to drive in France like everyone is saying.
My kids aren't too keen on long journeys but i'm hoping the ferry and stopover will break it up a bit for them.
Let me know what you decide. When are you thinking of going?
Normandy ferries used to be very resonable at £80 return for a solo car, but as you have realised they are now horrendously expensive following decline in competition for these routes.
Im becoming a convert for Norfolk line. Its so easy to get on and off their ferries with a caravan. They go to Dunkirk, so not as hectic as Calais when you get off.
Prices are £140 - £150 return, in line with others in this area.
tours/Loire isnt a bad trip from Pas de Calais. you wont save much in distance if you go Normandy, and the sailing times are much slower.
