why do so many go to France camping , is it the weather ,price or fed up with high price site fees in this country.what is the cost of living like for everyday essentials in the Brittany area?
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Can't speak for others but we have just re-bought a load of camping gear after giving it up some years ago so this Oct will be our first trip in a long time, we didn't fancy camping in Scotland in oct (for obvious reasons) we originally thought spain but thought the travel would be too far hence we are looking at France esp twinlakes which i'm hopeing will be far enough south to receive some decent weather.
Next year we may do spain but most prob, whitby (a favourite) cornwall and maybe just tour round, and scotland (of course)
Just a short drive and you are in a foriegn country with a different culture and language. The weather is excellent if you go south and you can take all your own equipment. The campsites are great as well as the architecture, food and THE WINE.
The space ....the scenery ...the easy open road ....the people, the climate the wonderful countryside the lovely markets ..the llifestyle, the campsites, the cost of living ...THE WINE
The pure unadulterated pleasure of knowing you're eating quality foods, drinking quality wines, breathing quality air! Fantastic scenery, beautiful countryside. Breathtaking architecture, rich heritage. Respectful camping neighbours. Boules on a summers evening, the song of the birds, the croak of the frogs & the chirrup of the crickets. NO TRAFFIC NOISE! Clear blue skies in the daytime, fantastic skyscapes at night. Moonlit walks down country lanes. The Milky Way spread out above you.
The UK used to be like that. (Apart from the wines....).
Lack of rubbish, fantastic flowers, clean rivers to swim in or canoe - and the wine.
The french are proud of their country and look after it - the result is great.
I'm sat at the bar here in the Dordogne, the sun is setting with its last rays lighting the cliffs the far side of the river with a golden glow- I can see the geraniums, the oliander, the bananas, the bamboo - people are walking past in shorts and tee shirts - off to the restaurant or the take away. 7Euro here at the bar for 1litre of local red and a couple of glasses.
Down at the river some are still fishing - you can see the trout, barble, perch and chubb - but no shopping trollies.
But the place is alive with the sound of chinking glasses, popping corks, laughter. Kids playing, crickets chirruping...owls hooting. It's still warm enough for shorts & tee-shirts too!
On holiday in May in France heading home from Spain and relaxed in a pavement cafe/ resturant and ordered a coffee and large beer ( 1pint) £6.50 in sterling ! France is a beutiful country well worth exploring but the cost of living is not too great. kiev
All of the above, but I think most of all, because it is a way of life.
Believe it or not I have been called a cheapskate by (equally well paid) colleagues on several occassions because we go "camping" and don't go and "live it up" in a fancy hotel somewhere. Must be a "tight-arse" they say.
Well they do not know what they are missing, and long should it stay that way.
