We are just back from a fabulous holiday in the Dordogne. For us the weather was perfect, plenty warm enough but not scorching, a few showers overnight and a bit of cloud, but we have come back with good tans. (To hear some of the whinging Brits we met though you would have thought it was freezing cold and snowy!!)
Our campsite was perfect, nice quiet families, a great pool, excellent sanitary facilities, friendly owners, a bread van every morning and huge pitches with shade and sun and a river for paddling in. A couple of restaurants in the village but no club on site, just what we hoped for. About 50/50 Dutch and Brit but not a chav to be seen. Most of the Brits there have been going there for years.
The Dordogne is beautiful. I can recommend the caves at Padirac, Chateau Castelnaud, Le Village de Bournat (fab for kids, lots of old fashioned fairground rides) and Sarlat, Domme and Beynac. Go to La Roque Gageac and climb up to the ancient fort in the cliffs for a wonderful view.
We will definately be going back !!

We went to Rocamadour on the way to the Gouffres De Padirac, it was nice but a bit much for the kids, they were too excited at the thought of the caves ;-) We were over near Sarlat so it took us hours to get there LOL, it looked like it was about 40 miles on the map, we hadn't counted on the narrowness and windiness of the roads and it took us over 2 hours to get there. After that we stuck to staying within about a 20 mile radius of the site :-)

No, we didn't. I know, but we were just *so* busy doing other things. We did wave every time we went past though ;-) Have a fab time for the rest of your hols, I'm missing it already.
It is a really lovely site, the river Ceou runs right through it, it has some really gentle shallows for the kids to paddle in and a couple of rope swings over deeper bits for the bigger kids LOL! The bread van comes from La Roque every morning (go to the bread van man's shop- patisserie to die for, especially the milles feuilles fraise...mmm) and the small supermarket in the village is a gentle 3 minute stroll across the field. There is a pizza takeaway in the village and a couple of restaurants, but very low key, and the only sound at night is the chirrup of the crickets :-) The owner Michele is lovely, very friendly and everything is very clean. I would recommend it to anyone who isn't looking for a noisy nightlife type holiday.

We have also just come back from the Dordogne and yes it is beautiful . The weather was very mixed with some bad thunder storms complete with fork lighting some scattered sun shine did break through . Some campers had to dig trenches around there tents as the rain storms showed no signs of stopping during the night. So yes we also had unhappy campers on our site but it wasn't just the Brits it was the French and Dutch as well We stayed at soleil plage a very nice friendly campsite with plenty of evening entertainment. We went on a 15km canoe trip down the river twice as it was so enjoyable My two teenagers aged 18 /16 both boys also came so unfortunately yes there were CHAVS on our campsite . We have been camping since the lads were small and have seen many regions in France . If you dont want teenagers [chavs] then stay away from Biarritz or anywhere in the south ,as its mostly teenagers on those campsites.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
