We are considering going to the SW corner of Germany next summer. There are only 2 sites reviewed in Germany on this site, neither seem right for us. Does anyone have any recommendations? We want a pool/lake to swim in, but nothing too loud, needs to have large tent pitches and be bookable.
Thanks
Amanda
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Its unlikely that you will find many 'loud' campsites as the Germans enjoy their peace and quiet! Have you done a Google as I am sure that will bring up lots of reviews and campsites. If you find a campsite you like just e-mail them about the pitch size and I sure they will be helpful. Where do want to be near?
We are also looking for a site in your area. Having been before we want to return next year as it is really beautiful. We stayed at Kirkzarten in 1998 I think. We were disappointed with the pitches.........they weren't really marked and everyone was on top of eachother which was a shame as the site was quite nice. Campers have the use of the public pool which is next door to the site and I have to say it is probably the best pool I have ever seen. I have e-mailed Campingplatz Herbolzheim as it looks as though their pitches are of a reasonable size. This site is around 20 miles north of Freiburg and only 3 miles from Europa Park. Let me know if you find anything with good-sized pitches.
That's the problem I am finding out, that the pitches really aren't of a comparable size to those we had this year in France. We have a big tent and so need a pretty large pitch.
What is there in the area for kids to do, apart from Europapark or course?

We have camped in France, Austria, Spain, Switzerland and Germany and so far have seen nowhere that offers you the size of pitches that you get in France. There are plenty of walks and cycling available in the area and there was plenty to keep the kids amused in Freiburg. It is also close to Colmar where a visit to "Little Venice" is worth the effort.
Grr, posting this for the second time!! Have you tried any sites on the French side of the border? We are considering going to the Strasbourg part of France and crossing over the border to visit German attractions. that way you still get the spacious French sites.

or the French one above. I'm going to contact them to find out what size pitch they can offer and take it from there. We want at least 100m2, preferably 120 or 130m2.
We went to Camping Belchenblick last year for 2 weeks with our two boys aged 6 and 8 and they loved it. We went to Europa Park for two days but there was also enough to keep us busy for the rest of the holiday. We took bikes and used them a few times, we went up Mt. Belchen in a cable-car one day and on foot another day. There are several towns worth visiting eg. Frieburg, Basle isn't too far away, Colmar.
The site itself was very well maintained and there is a big pool complex which customers can use just outside the site.
We really enjoyed the holiday, it was a change from France and after going to France again this year the boys are keen to go to Germany again next year.

Stayed at Campingplatz Herbholzheim this summer (August). Nice site with really good facilities. The pitches are not huge by French standards but we found it adequate for our Conway Cruiser FC with awning. Public pool next door is excellent and very cheap. Great location for both the Schwarzwald and also for visiting France.Very good restaurant on site open early in the evening if you have kids.
Owners were very friendly and like to keep the site looking nice. They do not take kindly to noisy people and those that cant behave!!
All in all a good site. Only thing to knock it was the amount of one nighters that there were. Forever getting up at sparrows fart to head off home. Lots of Dutch on site, some English and some German. Eurocamp use this site but it is not dominated by them.
All in all a good base for a holiday in the area. Warning, when it rains by God it rains but this is the same for the whole Schwarzwald area.

------------- Relax. You can do too much too soon.
We found thisreally usefull this year when we toured Germany swiss, holland and luxenbourg and belgium oh and france in our motorhome.
My advice for the black forrest is this. Campsites in germany are not of the standard of the UK. They are without a doubt worse. Although cheaper. If you go to the black forerest the only place I would really recomend is triburg. A real beautiful part of Germany. Although my opininon of Germany itself is as follows. A really nice clean country, but unfortunately I did not meet more than a couple of decent German people. I tried along with my family to go with a very open opinion as regard the GERMANS. We put the thoughts of war and the disasters concerning penalty shootouts behind us and really attempted to get along. Unfortunately the German people (mainly the older ones) did not feel the way when they knew we were English. Arogant and ignorant are to polite a words to use to describe some of the people we met.
Having said the above the country itself is really nice. I have made a few visits through work and play over the years and cant help noticing the beauty of the country.
If you want a really nice place to tie in to your holliday with the most gorgeous scenery and architecture and the most wonderful of people try stopping off in Luxenbourg, Truly IMO the most beautifull country in Europe,
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
