Remember that some of the sites also have teh polarity reversed, so make sure you have a polarity tester or that your EHU has one!
Take a 2 pin adapter as well, not all french sites have the euro 3 pin (blue) connectors.

It depends on whether the French site has the older domestic type of site socket (ie two pins and an earth socket on the plug you put in)
OR if it has the newer and increasingly more common Euro blue type of socket.
SO what you need is one adaptor to cover the first situation that converts the old type French socket to the newer Euro blue socket and thus your existing van lead.
If when you plug in the polarity tester in the van etc you have reversed polarity you then put in your reversed lead (clearly marked) which has a blue Euro plug at one end and a blue Euro socket at the other
When confronted by the Euro socket on the site electrics follow the same procedure but without the first adaptor.!!

John, this is an excellent response - the pictures are very helpful for first-timers showing exactly what is required. Perhaps the moderator could look at putting in into the article by Treckin Trekkie, pinned at the top of the page (if necessary without the links to the retailer of said items???)

Hello
Last year we travelled to france for the first time and hadn't taken an adaptor. Make sure you get one before you go as we couldn't find one anywhere!!

An interesting point ValA, and one I'd agree with. There are however a whole plethora of improvements I'd like to make to that original. The idea initially was to start an evolving resource that everyone could contribute to over time, but I failed to realise that the post edit rules had changed, (preventing edits on posts older than 12 hrs) and that prevented the piece developing from what is basically a draft knocked up overnight. Still, I think it serves it's purpose.
TT.

Very comprehensive
Nothing about following me as my friends do
Or if you have a motor home how to get lifts from caravanners on rallies
Not really serious comments but based on past experience
Not meant to offend we have made friends with several motor home owners in this way.One couple went with us every day for 4 weeks !!
