Hi everyone just registered so please let me know if I'm doing things wrong.
Been left a caravan coachman mirage 480/4 not manual ect so iv been fumbling my way though and have everything working to a extent the main problem I'm having is the little box on the wall that controls the heating and assuming the water gives options for gas or electricity but only works with main electric so I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or the van doesn't actually run from gas. ( cooker is working with the gas)
Any help appreciated
Hi If you have a cover on the outside flue for the water heater,you have to remove this before it will work on gas. Mine is next to the water inlet and says Truma on it. Hope this helps.

That all depends on the year of the caravan which the OP hasn't stated. If it's a Carver Cascade MK II hot water tank which was installed on the earlier Coachman's then there is no cover over the exhaust vent but if it's a later model with a Truma hot water tank then yes, there is a removablre cover that has to be removed when operating on gas.
It would help if the OP stated what year model the Coachman caravan is.
Hi not really sure what year I'm way out of my element to be fair the caravan was my grandads and with me having young kids he wanted me to have it when he passed it does have the carver water tank under the single seat that converts into bunk beds not sure on the vent will have a look asap, under the bench that turns to a double bed is the carver blower but someone told me even though it says gas on the dials it only runs from electric.

The easiest way is to enter a search for Carver Cascade external flue vent and the same with a Truma Ultraflow external flue vent and you will see the difference. The Carver is square and the Truma is rectangular (vertical) which you can then visually identify which one it is.
Just had a look the tank under the single seat looks like it's a cascade ge plus, there is a square vent outside but it's screwed on and also has sealant around it so assuming it's not supposed to be taken off, will try do the above search now see what comes up did take pics but can't seem to upload them
The very early Cascade water heater was a MKI and could only be operated by gas. The MK II version could be operated by either gas or electric which is what the 'GE' stands for (gas/electric).
The square vent has a slotted screw plug at the bottom left hand corner which is the fresh water drain plug for this system. The vent shroud which has 4 screws allows the tank to be removed but the gas pipe union connection has to be undone along with the mains cable at the opposite end. Work can be undertaken to the tank once removed but on replacement all the old sealant around the flue vent has to be removed with white spirit and a fresh application of the appropriate waterproof sealant to make it water tight.
Brilliant thanks very much for your help I'll have a look at it again today and if I still can't figure it I'll take it to a dealer, just that I was told over the phone from a caravan place by me it only works on electrics so didn't want to make a fool of myself.
